What I Learned From My Little Brother

I want to share things that I got from my little brother. But first, let me introduce to you my little brother. His name is Arazka, he is a super active three years old kid. He really loves to play cars, running around the house, and do some creativity with ‘water’ (If you know what I mean). He loves to play with water and sand or even creates mud by himself. Yup! He loves water too much J

Next, the thing about my Lil bro is he always curious about everything, especially for ‘new’ things. Me and my brother often watch kids series together (we have the same taste this time, lol). I have mentioned the kid series that I suggested in my previous article that I wrote in Bahasa, as references for you in learning English. And yeah, it still related to English because I have a plan to make my brother learn English at an early age. So that is why I often watch some kids series on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, CBeebies (Part of BBC). Maybe some of you will ask ‘What if he addicted to the gadget? It is too early for him’ And the answer is... as I told you previously, I and my brother often watch kids series together. Which means that I accompany him in watching the TV, I do monitoring my brother while he enjoys the show. Even sometimes he watches YouTube with my phone, I ask him to not too close with the phone (simply in the safe range). And then probably some of you will ask ‘So why you allow your brother to watch YouTube videos with the phone?’ and my answer is because I know that he got bored sometimes watching TV, and he steals information from YouTube videos and implements it with his own way to his toys. He improves himself by watching videos as his references and try to implement it with his own way. His brain works in receiving and processing the information that he got from videos on YouTube and he got an idea to play with his toys. That means he is creative right? That is why I let him and know what he does after watching YouTube videos.

Next thing is, I always make him watch videos in English. Remember my plan? I want him to learn English at an early age. The channel that I have mentioned before has different accents. I want him to be able to recognize the different accents through his favorite TV shows. And yeah it works! He is able to pronounce the words clearly or even singing the theme song on the TV shows. I am surprised and amazed at the same time. Why? A three years old kiddo can pronounce and sing the song without reading the lyrics and just try to copy it from what he listened to. Can you guess the impact? It gives a big impact to his language improvement. He tries to talk in English! I am so happy, no. I am too happy to see his improvement. He tries to speak little conversation in English and of course, I reply to him in English, so we both talk in English. As I mentioned in my previous article ‘Tips in Learning English’ I stated that you have to get used to the language, right? My brother proved that he is getting used to with English. That is why he can pronounce the words because he listens to English videos every day.

So here is the conclusion,

All we have to do in learning a language, is we have to get used to the language. If we listen to English videos or TV shows every day, we will be able to listen to the words or even got new vocabularies. Like what my brother did, he tries to follow how the character is pronouncing the word and say it over and over again until he can pronounce it. He does not know about grammar, he does not know whether it is true or not. But he just says it confidently. The thing is, you have to be able to be confident and do not think about the true or false. Just say it and watch more videos, learn more from it. Steal the information and improve yourself. It is okay if you try to watch kids TV shows, as long as you get something from it, just do it. Remember, practice makes perfect. Do not give up in filling yourself with knowledge.

Tips in Learning English

This is the first article that I write in English. So I will share about some tips that you can use to help you in learning English.

First, I want to tell you that learning foreign language might not be easy at the beginning. But it does not mean that it is impossible to learn. All you have to do is just enjoy the process and keep practice. Last, do not give up!

In learning English, you have to be able to master the 3 skills: Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
Okay, Let us get started!

      1. Try to Listen Everything in English

In learning a language, the first thing that you have to do is ‘get used to the language’. This is the first stage that you have to do in learning a language. You have to get used to the language that you are learning, so you have to listen the language more often. Because if we are learning a foreign language or new language that is not our main language, it will hard for us to listen the words or even in pronounce it. Because new language is ‘a new thing’ for us. We have to make ourself know the language by listening to English songs, watching videos in English.
By implement these things, your brain will notice the language and as time goes by you will be able to get the words that the native speakers said. Whether it is when you are listening to songs or even while watching videos. Both of them help you in improving your skill in listening.
If you are listening to English songs, make sure that you find out the lyrics and read it while listening to the song. It will help you in knowing how to pronounce the words and help you in memorizing the spelling of the words. Next, if you are watching videos in English, make sure you put the English subtitle so you can read the dialog while watching it. Last, make sure that you do it regularly and try to do it more often. In that way, soon your listening skill will improve.

2. Try to Learn Basic Tenses
Talking about tenses, there are 3 sequences of time that you have to learn: Past Tense, Present Tense, and Future Tense. You have to learn the tenses that most used in daily conversation. Try to start learn it from the simple thing, then you can move into the higher stage in your learning process.
I will explain the 3 tenses shortly. First, Past Tense. It is a tense that talk about event that happen in the past. For ex: I went to the game center with my friends yesterday. As you can see the marked words went is the past form of go and there is a word and there is a word yesterday which explain about when the event happen.
Next, is Present Tense. This tense is talking about the events that happen regularly (ex: daily activity). For ex: She plays violin on every Thursday. As you can noticed, the word plays is the word play added by s. Because the subject of the sentence is part of Third Person Singular (He, She, It), so the verb in the sentence must be added by S/ES at the end of the word. Last, the word every Thursday shows that when the event happen.
Last, is Future Tense. This tense is a tense that talking about the event that happen in the future. Ex: I will visit my cousin’s house next Saturday. The word will visit shows that the event that the subject will do in the future. While the word next Saturday shows when the event is happen.
Do not forget to practice the basic tenses, in order to help you in learning English. And try to watch more English videos that explain about the tenses. So you will understand more about the usage of the tenses.

Well, I think it is enough for the tips. I will share the other tips in learning English next time. And lastly, I hope that you learnt something and thank you for reading!

~See you~
